PURPOSE:To directly produce a silicon.alkoxide useful as a raw material for low-temperature synthesis of glass, etc., without passing through process, such as reduction of an oxide, by reacting silica with an alkali metal alkoxide in a non-aqueous solution. CONSTITUTION:An alkali metal alkoxide (e.g. sodium.n-butoxide) in dissolved in an alcohol, and silica is introduced thereinto and reacted by hermetically sealing to keep away water to afford the aimed silicon.alkoxide.
