PURPOSE:To form low-cost fine porous body having extremely lower thermal conductivity than that of static air under normal pressure, without change with time, by integrally forming 2 kinds of fine particles, namely fine silica particles and an inorganic compound of a layer structure. CONSTITUTION:The subject finely porous body is produced by forming (A) fine particles of silica together with (B) an inorganic compound of layer structure. The silica may be prepared by either the dry process or the wet process. The primary particle size of the silica is preferably 1-100nm. The compound of layer structure is, e.g., montmorillonite, bentonite, hectorite, kaolinite or other clays.
