PURPOSE:To shorten a stopping distance upon braking when a vehicle runs on a rough road at a speed lower than a reference speed by controlling brake fluid pressures of right and left front wheels according to a slip rate calculated from a greater one of rotational speeds of the right and left front wheels. CONSTITUTION:A hydraulic pipe 3 extending from a master cylinder 2 is provided with an actuator 4 including a branching device 40 for branching the hydraulic pipe 3 into three branch hydraulic pipes 31-33 and fluid pressure control valves 41-43 for controlling brake fluid pressure located in the hydraulic pipes 31-33, respectively. The fluid pressure control valves 41-43 are controlled by a control unit 7 according to a running condition of a vehicle. When a select switch 8 is selected under a rough road running condition where vibration is remarkable, and a running speed is not greater than a reference speed, independent braking control of left and right front wheels 5a and 5b is stopped, and a greater one of rotational speeds of the front wheels is selected. Then, a slip rate is calculated according to the greater rotational speed selected, and a brake fluid pressure of the front wheels is controlled.
