The invention concerns an arrangement for carrying out physical and/or chemical processes, to be more precise, a continuously-operating heat exchanger 10 comprising a large number of vertical heat-exchanger tubes 18 arranged between a lower chamber 17 and an upper chamber 16 inside a casing 15. Small solid particles are held in a fluidised state inside the tubes 18 by a liquid medium which flows upwards from the lower chamber 17 through tubes 18, whereby a good heat exchange is achieved while, at the same time, any sediment is removed from the inner walls of the tubes. At least one return tube 21 is arranged for downward flow of the granular composition. The second distribution plate 42 is also designed to minimise excessive wear of the casing 15 material caused by the rotary motion of the granules. <IMAGE>
