PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of a job by reducing possibility to intermediate a telephone to another person, and preventing the delay of the job from being generated, by attaching a speech recognition and voice synthesis function and a function to store the names of the common users of a telephone number and to place a call as confirming the presence state of the common users. CONSTITUTION:A speech recognition and voice synthesis part 3 is provided with an input speech recognition part 31 and a voice synthesizer 32 for calling. In the recognition part 31, all of the reference voice patterns of specific common users set by an automatic answering telephone set, that is, persons estimated to respond are stored. By collating the voice pattern with an inputted voice pattern, and the person estimated to respond having the most similar voice pattern is selected as a call candidate. And a code to designate the call candidate is supplied to a respondent call control part 4 as recognition data 301, When no appropriate person is selected, a calling synthesized tone 302 representing the fact impossible to perform speech recognition is vocalized by a speaker from the voice synthesizer 32 for calling, then, some one places a call with a transmitter by using the automatic answering telephone set.
