PURPOSE:To change speed change characteristic according to the use purpose, driving condition, driving manner, etc. of a vehicle to that drive feeling and driveability are improved by providing a speed change characteristic developing means for developing any speed change characteristic of a continuously variable transmission according to operation by a user. CONSTITUTION:A speed change characteristic developing means MB is arranged for a optionally developing a speed change pattern consisting of vehicle speed and throttle opening, and speed change characteristic of speed change ratio, etc. This speed change characteristic developing means MB may use a type developing the speed change characteristic according to a predetermined procedure interactively with a computer, or a type consisting of a chart or the like developing data corresponding to the speed change characteristic such as the speed change pattern, and an input device, for example. And storing the speed change characteristic developed by the speed change characteristic developing means MB in a memory means MC such as volatile or nonvolatile memory, a continuously variable transmission MA is controlled to change speed by means of a speed change control means MD based on the stored speed change characteristic.
