PURPOSE:To reduce shock at speed change regardless of vehicle operating condition by sensing the vehicle operating condition at the time of speed change, and by changing according thereto either of the control time and the controlled number of revolutions with respect to the engine. CONSTITUTION:At the time of shifting down on a transmission 6, the fundamental retention time corresponding to the shifted-down speed position is corrected with the load weight and the inclination angle of the vehicle, that shall be used for determination of the retention time T. The fundamental predicted engine speed corresponding to the product of the vehicle speed and the gear ratio in the shifted-down speed position is corrected with the load weight and the inclination angle of the vehicle, that is used for determination of the predicted engine speed Ne. The engine 11 is operated so as to attain the predicted engine speed Ne for the retention time T. This provides matching of the revolving speed of the input shaft 13 with that of the output shaft 8, that reduces shock at the time of shifting down in good performance. |
