PURPOSE:To perform white balance adjustment with high accuracy, by detecting the light quantities of three color components from a beam of light to be detected, and generating a control signal based on digital count values corresponding to the light quantities. CONSTITUTION:The beam of light inputted to a photoelectric transducer is expressed as a digital signal of six bits corresponding to the light quantity of the component. The count values of a counter 16 (R component) and a counter 18 (B component) are latched by latches 19 and 20 setting the prescribed count value of a counter 17 (G component) as reference. The output signals of the latches 19 and 20 are converted to analog signals by D/A converters 21 and 22, and are outputted as an R signal (red channel) control signal 25, and a B signal (blue channel) control signal 26. Therefore, by inputting those signals 25 and 26 to the gain control means of chrominance signal amplifiers of R and B in an image pickup signal processing system as control information, the white balance of the said color television camera can be adjusted.
