PURPOSE:To improve an S/N by reducing jitter in a reproducing signal and to improve the quality of the reproducing signal by setting the projecting time of a laser beam a little shorter than ever when a long bit is formed to reduce an error. CONSTITUTION:The laser beam generated from a laser generation circuit 14 is projected on the plane of a disk 11 after modulating write data by a pulse separation circuit 12 at the time of recording. The projecting time of the write laser beam is controlled corresponding to a bit length to be formed and a preceding blank length, and it is possible to form an almost standard bit length in spite of the bit length or the blank length. In such a case, since the bit length has a tendency to be formed a little longer for the projecting time in the case of the long bit, it is possible to form the bit length nearer to a regulated value by setting the projecting time of the laser beam a little shorter and negating the above tendency at the time of forming the long bit. In such a way, the reproducing signal with a few amount of jitter can be obtained, and the reproducing signal with a few amount of errors and a superior S/N.
