PURPOSE:To perform switching action smoothly by providing a hydraulic type switching means for high speed and low speed rocker arms and connecting oil supply passages with the rocker arm is contacting the base cycle of a cam. CONSTITUTION:A low speed and a high speed rocker arm 10, 11 are pivotally supported by a rocker shaft 8. Oil supply passages 21b, 21a are provided in the rocker shaft 8 and the high speed rocker arm 11 respectively, and the oil passages 21a, 21b are connected only when the high speed rocker arm 11 is contacting the base cycle of a high speed cam 5, when oil pressure is supplied to a hydraulic type switching means. This enables switching action to be performed only when the high speed rocker arm is not lifted, thereby switching action can be performed smoothly.
