PURPOSE:To recognize continuous hand-written characters without erroneous recognition due to deviation of the input position by moving the character display position by a moving means based on the deviation between already inputted characters and a current inputted character. CONSTITUTION:A threshold D is set which judges whether a newly inputted character should be written in the same line as already displayed characters or not. When the new character is inputted, the height of the center of this character is extracted and is stored as the center position in a register 7a. The height of displayed characters is stored as the center position in a register 7b. The difference between both center positions is taken and is stored as a deviation DELTAd in a register 7c. Next, the input character is recognized. The deviation DELTAd is compared with the threshold D; and in case of ¦DELTAd¦<=D, all of the picture is so moved that the preceding input character is in the same line as the new input character. In case of ¦DELTAd¦>D, the preceding input character is so displayed again that it is in the line adjacent to the line of the new input character. The newly inputted and recognized character is displayed in the input position.
