PURPOSE:To enable a control with an excellent responsibility or controllability to be performed while securing a satisfactory warming performance of an engine by learning in response to the engine temperature the controlled variable of the feedback control of an idle engine speed at the time of warming up. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 16 sets a target idle engine-speed corresponding to the then condition of an engine 1. In addition, it sets the initial value of feedback controlled variables which provide an intake control valve 13 with its opening in response to the quantity of intake air to be introduced through a by-pass passage 12 in carrying out a feedback control. Hereupon, when an actual engine speed converges upon a target engine speed, the feedback controlled variables are registered every time the temperature of engine cooling water detected by a water temperature sensor 18 changes by a prescribed value. The relation between the cooling water temperatures registered thus and the feedback controlled variables is used as the initial value of feedback controlled variables for controlling the idle engine speed. Thereby, the scattering in the intake control through a quick warming device 14 can be compensated.
