PURPOSE:To set margins in conformity with the size of a paper, by discriminating the size of the paper through obtaining necessary informations from a tray- selecting switch of a cut-sheet feeder by the main body of a recorder, or discriminating the size of the paper by a mechanical detecting means or the like provided at the intermediate part of a passage of the paper through a main body of the cut-sheet feeder. CONSTITUTION:When a main body 17 of a cut-sheet feeder is mounted on the main body 21 of a recorder, the size of a paper is discriminated by manually operating a tray-selecting switch 19. Next, the main body 21 of the recorder reads the switching of the switch 19 through a cable 20, thereby discriminating the size of the paper. The main body 21 of the recorder automatically sets margins at positions confirming to the size of the paper being discriminated. In preparing for paper feeding, a carrier 22 is moved to the center of the paper, namely, the center between the newly set margins, thereby ensuring easy wrapping of the paper around a platen 25.
