PURPOSE:To eliminate any limitation from hardware and software constitutions on a calling side, by transmitting prescribed picture data to a destination station after selecting the data out of the plural picture data stored in a picture image memory in accordance with the identification information expressed by means of select signals for controlling circuit transmitted from the destination station. CONSTITUTION:A picture image memory 5 which can store plural picture data and a control means 3 which selects prescribed picture data out of the plural picture data stored in the memory 5 in accordance with identification information expressed by means of select signals for controlling circuit transmitted from a destination station and causes the selected picture data to be transmitted to the destination station are provided. Namely, usually used select signals for controlling circuit can be used for selecting the picture data stored in the picture image memory 5. Therefore, picture communication can be carried out by means of a simple communication procedure and, in addition, poling communication using the picture image memory 5 can be performed between picture communication equipment of different specifications.
