PURPOSE:To shorten a time to exchange a disk, by arranging a recording and reproducing device confronting with the slot of a housing case in which a disk cartridge is housed, and moving the housing case and the recording and reproducing device simultaneously in directions opposite to each other. CONSTITUTION:The recording and reproducing device 27 is arranged confronting with the slot of the housing case 22 in which the disk cartridge 21 is housed, and furthermore, the recording and reproducing device 27 is constituted so as to be moved relatively along the housing case 22. In other words, by inputting a disk designation signal from the outside, motors 26 and 33 linked to ball bearings 24 and 31 are operated, and ball bearings 24 and 31 are rotated. Then, the housing case 22 and the recording and reproducing device 27 are moved simultaneously in the directions opposite to each other (direction to approach mutually), and the recording and reproducing device 27 is positioned at the front of the slot 22a where a required disk cartridge is housed. At this time, since the housing case 22 and the recording and reproducing device 27 are moved simultaneously in the directions opposite to each other, the relative moving speed of the case and the device can be doubled. In such a way, it is possible to shorten the time required for the positioning of the housing case 22 and the recording and reproducing device 27.
