PURPOSE:To rapidly and accurately measure the concn. of soot, by a method wherein dust-containing gases are extracted from a plurality of measuring points and respectively mixed with a predetermined amount of diluting gas to bring the concns. of the soot in the gases to the same order while the diluted gases are selectively supplied to a single densitometer. CONSTITUTION:The dust-containing gases extracted from the gas introducing and lead-out pipes 10a, 10b of a dust collector 10 through extraction pipes 11a, 11b are sent to a densitometer 18 through flowmeters 12a, 12b. Air as diluting gas is mixed into the extracted dust-containing gases through valves 14a, 14b and flowmeters 15a, 15b. Therefore, the concns. of soot are respectively diluted to predetermined levels and the concns. of the soot becomes the same order and these dust-containing gases are alternately supplied to the soot densitometer 18 corresponding to the opening and closing operations of solenoid valves 16a, 16b, 17a, 17b.
