NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula (R1 is substituent having saturated hydrocarbon ring as a principal skeleton; R2-R5 and R9-R14 are lower alkyl, nitro, etc.; R6 and R7 are H, benzyl, etc.; R8 is H, lower alkyl, etc.; n is integer of 1-30). EXAMPLE:1-Cyclohexylmethyl-3,3,4,6-tetramethylspiro[indolino-2,3'-(9'- methoxyna phtho)[2,1-b][1,4]-oxazine]. USE:A photochromic material having high molar extinction coefficient and excel lent durability and temperature characteristics, etc., of color-development. PREPARATION:The exemplified compound can be produced e.g. by reacting 2,3,3,4,6-pentamethylindolenine with (bromomethyl)cyclohexane and reacting the resultant 1-cyclohexylmethyl-2,3,3,4,6-pentamethylindolenine bromine salt with 7-methoxy-1-nitroso-2-naphthol.
