PURPOSE:To grasp the progress state of translation processing by using an action display function which outputs sequentially the progress of each translating action. CONSTITUTION:An operator supplies an English text to be translated into the Japanese words and the translating instructions to an input part 10. A control part 12 controls the overall control of a mechanical translation device. A translation processing part 14 consists primarily of a morpheme analyzing part, a syntax structure analyzing part, a structure converting part, a syntax structure generating part, a morpheme generating part, etc. Then the part 14 translates the English text supplied from the part 10 into the Japanese words by an instruction of the operator. A display part 16 displays the Japanese sentence after translation, the original English sentence supplied from the part 10 or various instructions given to a user, the translation processes, etc. An output part 18 outputs the translated Japanese sentence, the original English sentence, etc.
