PURPOSE:To enable a printing to be conducted on a paper of A2 size or more using low-cost thermal heads for A3 size or less, by a method wherein a plurality of thermal heads which are so arranged in two lines as to supplement each other are used in combination with a plurality of ink ribbons. CONSTITUTION:By driving thermal heads 12, 14, a printing is performed on intermediate parts 41a, 41b of a paper 41. The paper 41 is carried in a direction of an arrow Y3. When the leading edge of the paper 41 reaches to the line of thermal heads 11, 13, 15, a printing is carried out on remaining parts 41c, 41d, 41e. As the five thermal heads 11-15 are disposed in two lines so that the two lines supplement each other, a printing can be conducted on the A2-size printing paper 41 without using A2-size thermal heads. As ink ribbons 16-20 in use are also less than an A3-size paper in width, the occurrence of wrinkles in the respective ink ribbons 16-20 during printing and taking-up can be almost prevented. On the other hand, only the replacement of the used ink ribbons is required, and the need for maintenance and cleaning is almost eliminated. |
