PURPOSE:To rationalize grinding operation by providing plural shaft centers on the outer periphery of a rotary wheel spindle stock, mounting different types of grinding wheels on each of them via a spindle with air motor, and controlling its rotation, feed, and the action of the spindle. CONSTITUTION:A workpiece (a) is held by the chuck part 1a of a main spindle 1, a rotary wheel spindle stock 6 is rotated to set a grinding wheel c1 which is suited to grind a shaft peripheral face to a machining position, an air motor d1 is driven to rotate a spindle b1 and the wheel c1, and the workpiece (a) is also rotated by the main spindle 1, the wheel c1 is advanced in a radial direction to be brought into contact with a machining face and reciprocated in a shaft center direction, and gradually fed in the radial direction to carry out grinding. After that, a thread groove grinding wheel c2, a semicircular diameter groove grinding wheel c3, a recessed hole inner face grinding wheel, an end face grinding wheel, etc., are set as necessary, equally to carry out grinding operations. Thereby, a rational and highly accurate grinding operation can be carried out while enabling one person to handle plural devices.
