A light source 6 is located in the vicinity of the base 5 of the fish ladder 4 situated on the side of the dam (barrier) 3. Other light sources are located in the successive cells of the ladder 4, and the operation of the light sources may be intermittent. The fish arriving downstream 1 of the dam (barrier) 3 and desiring to swim up the watercourse will be attracted towards the base of the ladder 4, then towards the top of this ladder, thus easily reaching the upstream zone 2. The method is intended to facilitate the use by migrating fish of fish ladders fitted to dams (barriers). <IMAGE>
