PURPOSE:To automatically test the sound synthesizer of a terminal equipment by forming a synthesized sound corresponding to a specific bit pattern in the sound synthesizer at the time of detecting a testing signal and transmitting the result to a center device. CONSTITUTION:When a test command is transmitted from the center device 1, this testing signal is detected by the detecting circuit 22 of the terminal equipment 2a and a controller 26 is activated. The controller 26 reads the PCM code of the synthesized sound corresponding to the specific bit pattern previously stored in a memory 23, the synthesized sound is demodulated in a demodulation circuit 25 and is transmitted to the center device 1 through a subscriber line 3a. In the center device 1, this synthesized sound is demodulated by a modem 12, and is compared with the pattern preset by a CPU 10, and when they coincide, it is decided that the sound synthesizing function of the terminal equipment 2a is normal.
