The invention is a gas lamp with a gas mantle employing butane, propane, etc., supplied from an independant source of gas via a flexible pipe. The lamp is a reversible type which functions equally well in downwardly directed or upwardly directed position, having good illuminating performances when the burner is directed downwardly. An elongated tubular sleeve (8) is continuously disposed around and spaced from the burner (2), and is mounted at an end on the cover (7) and at the other end on the cup(9), the ear (9a, 9b) for evacuation of the fumes remaining outside the sleeve.
