Specialised sources 1, 2, 3 each produce a coloured beam of one colour. The light from each source 1, 2, 3 is guided towards a matrix 29 of liquid crystal light modulators, followed by a bundle 30 of optical fibres, the free end of which forms the viewing surface of the device. An electronic circuit 5 controls the sources 1, 2, 3 and each of the modulators of the matrix 29 in order to form an image. The invention applies in particular to the presentation of animated coloured images. <IMAGE>
