A cylindrical filter and separation element for filtering and separating off differing substances and particles includes a cylindrically wound arranged wire (6) in the form of a vortex, spiral or helix, in order to form a vortex-, spiral- or helix-shaped slot (9) between the neighbouring peripheral edges of the wire (6), as a result of which the filter and separation range are increased to the extremes by the so-called linear treatment orifices, in order to increase the filter and separation efficiency. <IMAGE>
