A system for transporting motor vehicles (18), such as automobiles and the like, in a conventional transport vehicle (10), such as a semitrailer or cargo container, includes a plurality of modular vehicle carriers or dollies (16) supported thereon to receive and support a motor vehicle (18). The ramp members (44, 46) are adjustable to position the associated motor vehicle (18) in inclined relation to horizontal. The carriers (16) are adapted to be moved along the cargo deck (10a) of the transport vehicle (10) such that the asssociated motor vehicles (18) are disposed in overlapping relation, thus enabling an optimum number of motor vehicles (18) to be transported. Guide rails (20) are preferably affixed to the cargo deck (10a) to guide the carriers (16), but are releasable to enable the transport vehicle (10) to be used for conventional cargo (83) when not transporting motor vehicles (18). |
