Measuring device for determining weight, especially of edible fats such as margarine which are sold to the consumer in plastic containers via retail outlets. The measuring device makes it possible to determine the weight of a certain quantity of margarine for example which is to be taken from the container without using kitchen scales, which have been necessary to date. To achieve this, the measuring device rests between the sealing lid and the container on the latter in a rotatable manner. Two openings with different gram gradations make it possible precisely to determine the weight of the quantity remaining in the container, which quantity can in addition be indicated by two coloured strips which are to be horizontally arranged at different heights on the inner wall of the container, forming a closed circle. The device according to the invention is intended to be used wherever recommended quantities, e.g. in cooking or baking recipes or doctor's orders, e.g. for diabetics etc., make it necessary to expect or even demand more-or-less precise observation of specific gram quantities, without the use of kitchen scales, which have been necessary to date. The invention provides a device which is very easy to use, very cheap to produce and which even elderly people can be taught to use.
