The invention relates to a process for producing hollow profiles from plastic, for example flexible tubes and pipes, with low permeability to gases and vapours. To obtain high-quality hollow profiles from plastic, fluorination of the elongated profiles is proposed, in which the fluorine-containing treatment gas is introduced at one end of the hollow profile and led away at the other end, and in which, after expiry of the necessary reaction time, a flushing phase with inert gas is carried out, in which the flushing gas is also fed in at one end and led away at the other end.
