In known cutting drums, sprinkling liquid is fed in a pulsating manner to the nozzles. The liquid feed is restricted only to the cutting-drum peripheral part facing the working face, with a fixed, invariable admission area. The proposed solution, during pulsating liquid feed, is to permit displacements of the admission area on the cutting-drum periphery as a function of the supporting-arm inclination of the cutting drum but is also to enable the admission area to be reduced or enlarged. This object is achieved by means of a computer (20) which forms control signals from the signals corresponding to the swivel direction, the swivel angle of the supporting arm and the number of bores (16) to which liquid is to be admitted, and if need be from the travel-direction signal of a drum loader (1), in order to change via solenoid valves (19) the peripheral area, to which liquid is admitted in each case, of the cutting drum (4) in the desired direction. <IMAGE>
