An adjusting device has a manually operable handle (3) which is coupled via a transmission (14, 15) to a rotary resistor (potentiometer) (17). In order to make possible intervention in the mechanical drive unit while maintaining a simple structure and without contravening electrical safety regulations, the transmission has two gear wheels (14, 15) which engage with one another and of which the first gear wheel (15) is arranged with the handle (3) on a first support (2), and the second gear wheel (15) is arranged with the rotary resistor (17) on a second support (18).
