Instead of the use of cranes or the labour - and material - intensive sealing and pumping out of ships customary until now to raise them, inflatable flotation bags are used. Any number desired, in any size or shape desired, can be used. Also, flotation bags can be added or removed at will in any phase of the salvage operation. In regions where divers cannot work, these flotation bags can also be filled by robots. Any vessel or any load is carried up to the surface by the displacement and the great buoyancy. Any salvage ship can then handle the rest of the salvaging without difficulty.
