PURPOSE:To facilitate assembly and to reduce cost by disposing a polarizing filter between 1st and 2nd optical fibers, and putting the 1st and 3rd optical fiber into the state in which these fibers are optically connected to each other by the reflected light of the polarizing filter. CONSTITUTION:Respective end faces 10a, 20a of the 1st and 2nd optical fibers 10 and 20 are respectively diaognally polished to prescribed angles. The polarizing filter 40 consisting of multi-layered dielectric films are formed by vapor deposition one, for example, end face 10a. The end faces 10a and 20a are then abutted and joined against and to each other by aligning the optical axes of a core 11 and a core 21. On the other hand, the end face 30a of the 3rd optical fiber 30 is also diagonally polished to a prescribed angle and is so joined to the above-mentioned fibers that the optical axis of the core 31 aligns to the optical axis of the core 11 of the 1st fiber 10 when light is reflected by the filter 40. The stage for the axial alignment, etc., is thereby simplified, the cost of production is reduced and the earthquake resistance is improved. |
