PURPOSE:To specify a recording place by deciding that the part, in which the silence part of an envelope signal based on an RF signal based on a recorded information signal exists more than the prescribed number of tracks, is a non- recorded part and calculating and displaying the recording time of the recorded part and the remaining time of the non-recorded part from the number of tracks. CONSTITUTION:When the number of the tracks of a non-recorded part (b) is the prescribed number of tracks or below and the number of the tracks of a non-recorded part (d) is the prescribed number of tracks or above, a counter 12 decides that the part after the first number (e) of tracks, in which the non- recorded part (d) starts, is the non-recorded part. The recording time of an information signal recorded at an optical disk 1 is counted based on the number (e) of tracks. A counter 13 counts the remaining time of the non-recorded part of the recordable area of the optical disk 1 based on the output of the counter 12. A displaying circuit 14 displays the output of the counter 12 and the counter 13, in short, the recording time of the recorded time and the remaining time of the non-recorded part, and thus, the recording place can be specified.
