A PROCESS FOR FORMING WASTE PLASTICS MATERIAL INTO AN ARTICLE

The process comprises the steps of feeding the waste plastics material into a housing having a rotatable screw member and then mixing the material in the housing until the material becomes flowable. The flowable material is then transferred by means of a screw member via a hole in the housing into a mould having a heating means operatively associated therewith. The internal temperature of the mould is substantially the same as the temperature of the flowable material so that the flowable material takes up the internal shape of the mould. The mould is allowed to cool to enable the material to set and then the article is removed from the mould. In a preferred embodiment, the moulds (52-59) mounted on a rotatable mould holder, are successively pushed against the outlet of the housing. A heater assembly (6) is lowered by a ram (17) so that the heater frame (6b) contacts the mould. The mould is filled, the heater removed and the mould then passes successively to the cooling tank (4), followed by removal of the moulded article (59).
