PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head suitable to a high density magnetic recording with a small gap interval by forming at least either of a recording and reproducing core half body and an erasing core half body arranged between a gap for recording and reproducing and a gap for erasing with the thin film of a magnetic material. CONSTITUTION:A recording and reproducing core outside half body 7b located at the outside of a gap 5 for recording reproducing is formed by an oxide magnetic body and a coil is wound. By the current to flow at the coil, a signal can be written through a gap to a recording medium, and by the electro motive force to occur at the coil due to the magnetic flux from the recording medium, a signal written in the recording medium can be read. Since for a magnetic head 1 constituted in such a way, inside half bodies 7a and 8a of a core 2 for recording and reproducing and a core 3 for erasing are formed by a metallic thin film, a distance L2 between gaps is made smaller. Thus, a gap interval is made smaller and a magnetic head suitable to a high density magnetic recording can be obtained.
