PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the title glass having a large pore diameter with excellent formability and without generating any crack by heat-treating the raw material obtained by molding the B2O3-SiO2 glass having a specified composition to separate the material into a soluble phase and an insoluble phase, treating the material with an acid, and then eluting the soluble phase. CONSTITUTION:The easily soluble B2O3-SiO2 glass having excellent formability, contg., by weight, 45-67% SiO2, 0.5-10% Al2O3, 10-30% B2O3, 0.5-8% (Na2O +K2O), 7.1-10% CaO, and 0.5-7% MgO, where the total amt. of the components is controlled to >=90%, and contg. <=10% of the total amt. of BaO, SrO, ZrO2, TiO2, Li2O, Cs2O, and F is molded into a desired shape. The molded material is then heat-treated at 600-850 deg.C for 1-100hr to separate the material into a soluble phase and an insoluble phase. The material is dipped in the 0.1-5 N acid (e.g., sulfuric acid) heated at 80-100 deg.C for 1-50hr, hence the soluble phase is eluted, and the title porous glass having >=40,000Angstrom pore diameter is obtained.
