PURPOSE:To obtain the title discoloration inhibitor which can prevent the discoloration of a painted surface, by adding a water-soluble phosphorus compound to, e.g., a paint. CONSTITUTION:0.05-2.0% at least one water-soluble phosphorus compound selected from among a phosphoric acid (salt) and a polyphosphate is added to a sealer, a paint or the like comprising an acrylic emulsion, a pigment, a filler, etc. or 0.04-4wt.% said water-soluble phosphorus compound is added to a material such as a ground material constituting a wall or a ceiling which is to be finished by painting.
