A magneto-optical recording medium of amorphous alloy coated over a film substrate is provided, which has its axis of easy magnetization in the direction of film thickness. The composition of the amorphous magnetizable film is <CHEM> <CHEM> in which R is one or more rare earth elements including at least one element of atomic number 62 to 71 inclusive: M is one or more elements, selected from titanium, zirconium, and hafnium; T is iron or a combination of iron and cobalt; and A is aluminum, boron, bismuth and/or antimony; and x, y, z, and n are mole percentages falling respectively in the following ranges: 4</=x</=15; 4<y</=15; 70</=z</=92; and 0</=n</=10.
