Cassette read/write device, of the type comprising a case (100) provided with a housing (112), having an opening, able to receive a cassette (10) and a slide (130) supported resiliently in the housing (112) and which supports first transmitting/receiving means (121, 125, 126) able to co-operate with the cassette, characterised by the fact that : - the first transmitting/receiving means (121, 125, 126) comprise at least one photocoupler element and they are designed to co-operate with second transmitting/receiving means (21, 25, 26) provided on the cassette (10), - the first transmitting/receiving means (121, 125, 126) are provided on the front face of the slide (130) directed towards the opening of the housing (112), - the second transmitting/receiving means (21, 25, 26) are provided on the face of the cassette (10) intended to be brought into facing relationship with the front face of the slide (130), - the slide (130) and each cassette (10) are provided with centering structures (138, 32) on their facing surfaces provided respectively with first transmitting/receiving means (121, 125, 126) and second transmitting/receiving means (21, 25, 26), - the slide (130) is able to move by translation, in the housing (112), parallel to the direction of introduction of a cassette (10), so that at the time of insertion of a cassette (10) into the housing (112) of the case, the cassette (10) contacts the slide (130) then causes a slight withdrawal of the slide towards the bottom of the housing (112), and - the slide (130) is also able to move transversely with respect to the direction of introduction of the cassette (10) in order to ensure self-centering of the slide (130) on the cassette (10) and to guarantee close proximity between the first transmitting/receiving means (121, 125, 126) and the second transmitting/receiving means (21, 25, 26) when introducing a cassette into the housing (112) of the case.
