PURPOSE:To make it possible to output a reduced font pattern based on font pattern data on each character according to a character font form, by storing reduction row data in a column direction and a row direction for each character font together with each character font data. CONSTITUTION:For example, 8-bit partial reduction data 1d, 1e corresponding to the 2nd and 3rd columns or the 5th and 6th columns of 8 bits in one horizontal row of font data read from a font memory 1, leaving 4 bits (1st, 4th, 7th and 8th columns), are read from the font memory 1 by a partial reduction gate 2, and partial reduction font data is outputted. On the other hand, in the case of a total reduction row processing, the partial reduced font data obtained by the partial reduction row processing is read in the row direction, for example, 8-bit total reduction data 1f, 1g for 8 bits in one vertical column are read from the font memory 1 by a total reduction gate 3 in the same manner as above, and total reduction font data is outputted. |
