PURPOSE:To perform the recovery of exhaust energy efficiently all the time by controlling an electric motor, for recovering the exhaust energy of an internal combustion engine, to be set to a constant torque characteristic at a low speed range of the engine and to an abating torque characteristic at a high speed range, respectively. CONSTITUTION:When an internal combustion engine 1 is driven, a turbine 2 is rotated by its exhaust gas, while an AC generator 3 is driven as well. In this case, the electric power generated by the generator 3 is regulated as proper frequency and voltage power by a controller 4 with an inverter function, and it is fed to an AC motor 5. On the other hand, this motor 5 is connected to an output shaft of the internal combustion engine 1 via two transmission gears 8 and 9. And, at time of braking, the motor 5 is operated as a generator and the controller 4 as a regenerative mode, respectively, whereby electric power is stored in a battery 11 via a voltage control circuit 10. And, at the time of acceleration or the like, input of the motor 5 is detected by a sensor 7, thereby controlling the motor so as to make its output become largest at less than the maximum value of the input.
