PURPOSE:To produce the title pellet of a raw material mixture for forming a high- purity and high-performance metal-reinforced composite material by kneading the whisker of a metal and a compd., staples, a granular reinforcing material, and metallic powder with a binder, and pelletizing the kneaded material. CONSTITUTION:From 5-40vol.% of B, C, W, Mo, stainless steel, B4C, BN, the whisker of the oxide, carbide, nitride, etc., of a metal, and staples or a granular reinforcing material and the balance consisting of the metallic powder of Al, Mn, Ti, Ni, Cu, Fe, or their alloy are mixed in a solvent such as ethyl alcohol, n-butanol, and water to obtain a slurry wherein the materials are uniformly dispersed and mixed. The solvent in the slurry is removed so that the content of the residual solvent is controlled to 10-30%, and flat cake having 1-150mm thickness is produced. The binder such as acrylic resin is added to the cake to the extent of 1-10wt.%, the mixture is sufficiently kneaded, pelletized, and then dried to form a dry solidified layer on the pellet, and the pellet consisting of a mixture of the ceramic and the metal powder and used for forming a high-quality and high-performance metal-reinforced composite material is produced.
