PURPOSE:To obtain the title high-precision glass lens by supplying a raw glass material to a couple of dies, compression-molding the material while controlling the deformation quantity, releasing the control, and then compression-cooling the molded material. CONSTITUTION:The raw glass material 4 is supplied into the metal mold M consisting of an upper die 1, a lower die 2, and a barrel die 3, the mold is set on a lower heater block 6, and a nonoxidizing gas is supplied into an outer frame 10. The mold M is then heated by the upper and lower heater blocks 5 and 6 to heat the material 4 to a temp. in the vicinity of the softening point of the material 4, then a cylinder 9 is lowered to vertically press the upper die 1 through the block 5, and molding is finished when the cylinder 9 is closely attached to a stopper 7. The compression is then transiently stopped, the stopper 7 is removed, compression is again started, the heaters 5 and 6 are turned off, and the mold is cooled.
