The present invention provides novel basic esters of the formula I (1) wherein R is a group of the formulae or wherein R1 is hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl, and R2 is C1-C4 alkyl, halogen, a C1-C4 alkoxy, C1-C4 alkylthio, nitro, amino or a C1-C4 alkylamino, R1 and R2 being the same or different, and R3 is a basic group selected from di(C1-C4)alkylamino or a 6-membered nitrogen containing aromatic heterocyclic group which may contain a further oxygen atom and to their pharmacologically useful salts with acids which are preferably used in local anaesthesia.
