PURPOSE:To obtain (chlorobenzyl)-tetrahydrothieno[3,2-C]pyridine having inhibitory action on blood platelet agglutination, by reducing a specific hydrazone compound with a metal boron hydride. CONSTITUTION:A compound expressed by formula I (R is H or lower alkyl) e.g. 5-( 2-chlorobenzyl )-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[ 3,2-C ]pyridine-7-tosylhydrazone is reduced with a metal boron hydride (e.g. sodium boron hydride), preferably at 5-80 deg.C for 0.5-15hr to afford the aimed 5-(2-chlorobenzyl)-4,5,6,7- tetrahydrothieno[3,2-C]pyridine expressed by formula II. Furthermore, the com pound expressed by formula I which is the starting raw material is a novel substance and can be produced by reacting, e.g. a compound expressed by formu la III with a hydrazine derivative expressed by formula IV.
