CONCENTRATION AND SEPARATION OF UNSATURATED FATTY ACID ESTERS

PURPOSE:To obtain simply and easily the title high-purity compound which is used as a precursor of prostaglandin by adsorbing and desorbing a specific fatty acid ester mixture to from a specific zeolite containing cations. CONSTITUTION:A fatty acid ester mixture containing arachidonates and rinolates is brought into contact with a zeolite which belongs to faujasite and contains at least one cation selected from alkali metal ions and organic cations to effect adsorption and desorption. Thus, both of esters, arachidonates and rinolates, are simultaneously concentrated and separated. The use of ethylammonium Y-zeolite or potassium X-zeolite gives the objective compounds of high purity. The zeolite can be used repeatedly.
