PURPOSE:To enhance sensitivity and repeating use characteristics by forming a photosensitive layer containing an azo pigment having a specified organic group combined with an aromatic hydrocarbon ring or hetero ring. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive layer formed on a conductive substrate contains the azo pigment having the aromatic ring or hetero ring combined with the organic group represented by formula I in which X1 is a group necessary for condensing with the benzene ring to form an optionally substituted aromatic hydrocarbon ring or such a hetero ring; each of R1 and R2 is alkyl, aryl, a heterocyclic group, or a cyclic amino group containing N in a ring; and Z is O or S, thus permitting the photosensitive body to be improved in carrier generating efficiency, or carrier transfer efficiency in the inside of the photosensitive layer containing said azo pigment, sensitivity up to long wavelength regions, and potential stability at the time of long uses.
