PURPOSE:To prevent exhalation of a fume by floating foams formed by a thin film of an aq. soln. containing at least one of surfactants and a water soluble polymers on a free surface so as to cover the free surface. CONSTITUTION:Foams which are formed by a thin film of an aq. soln. containing at least one of surfactants such as fatty acid salts etc., and water soluble polymers such as cornstarch etc., are floated on a free surface of liquid so as to cover the free surface. Hence, a fume which occures from a liquid surface in a surface treatment operation of a metallic material etc., is absorbed with the foams before exhalation of the fume into the atmosphere. Consequently an exhaust hood and exhaust blower are unnecessary. The treatment work is simply carried out with only spreading and deposition of the foams. Moreover, the fume absorbed with the foams goes back to the original liquid by means of defoaming. Accordingly, even if a harmful gas occures, its stripper is unnecessary.
