PURPOSE:To obtain the title substance in high selectivity and yield, by allowing a carbinol derivative to react with lead or a lead compound in the presence of a metal which is larger than lead in ionization tendency through simple operations with no use of special apparatus. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula II is obtained by reaction of a compound of formula I (R<1>, R<2> are H, alkyl, alicyclic group, aryl, heterocyclic groups; R<3> is H, alkyl, aryl; X, Y are halogen; m, n are 1 or 2 where m+n is 3 with lead or a lead compound in an organic solvent in the presence of a metal whose ionization tendency is larger than lead such as Al, Fe, Ni, Sn, Co, Mg at 20-100 deg.C. The combination with a metal larger than lead in ionization tendency can reduce the amount of the lead (compound) to minimum and the work-up becomes simple. The amount of the lead employed is 0.0001-0.2 time molar based on the compound of formula I.
