PURPOSE:To obtain an ink jet recording paper having ink absorptivity, smoothness, glossiness, water resistance of recorded images and dimensional stability upon adhesion of an ink, by coating the surface of a base paper with a coating liquid comprising a predetermined amount of synthetic silica in a pigment, treating the coated surface with an aqueous liquid containing a cationic high molecular weight electrolyte, followed by heating, and pressing the resultant paper against a heated finished surface, followed by drying. CONSTITUTION:A surface is coated with a coating liquid comprising at least 40 pts.wt. of synthetic silica in 100 pts.wt. of a pigment, the coated surface is treated with an aqueous liquid containing acationic high molecular weight electrolyte, the treated surface is pressed against a heated finished surface, followed by drying. Synthetic silica is a silicate such as non-crystalline silica, amorphous silica, silicic anhydride and white carbon. The aqueous adhesive may be starch such as oxidized starch and esterified starch, polyvinyl alcohol, a styrene-butadiene latex or the like. The cationic high molecular weight electrolyte may be a polyvinylbenzyltrimethylammonium halide, a polydiallylmethylammonium halide or the like. |
